Synopsis
COMING JULY 14, 2010!!!

From award-winning illustrator and acclaimed comic book artist Nick Percival comes a dark, original fairy tale.

You think you know them. Think again.

Violently ripped from the pages of folklore come the Enchanted. Supernatural immortals living in a dark, steampunk, creature-infested world where nature, technology and foul magic are in constant conflict. When the twisted, burnt remains of the half-wooden, half-mechanical warrior, Pinocchio, are discovered, wolf hunter Red Hood and giant killer Jack realize the fragile rules of their existence have been shattered. With the help of other powerful Enchanted (the mercenary, Goldilocks and psychic exterminators, Hansel and Gretel), Jack and Red team up on an adventure to stop whatever, or whoever is destroying their powers and murdering their kind.

Ron Howard To Take On 'Avengers'-Like Fairytale Action Flick

The crew at Radical Comics have enjoyed a steady stream of Hollywood options since they opened their doors in 2007. Caliber, The Last Days of American Crime, Freedom Formula, and Hercules: The Thracian Wars have all been put in active development, often before the books themselves are released. (Those lush covers are undoubtedly a big help. You just want to pick them up and make a movie out of them.) THR's Heat Vision reports that Radical's latest sell is Nick Percival's new graphic novel, Legends, which has caught the eye of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

Legends trods a familiar path of fairy tale deconstruction. It stars a number of famous fairy tale characters -- Red Riding Hood, Jack the Giant Killer, Goldilocks and Hansel and Gretel -- as wolf hunters, mercenaries, psychic exterminators, and just general badasses. They come together to investigate the murder of Pinocchio, and realize the killer is hunting all creatures of folklore.

Radical's Legends: The Enchanted Getting Film Adaptation

Hell freaking yeah! Heat Vision is reporting that the awesome Legends: The Enchanted from Radical Publishing has just been picked up by Imagine Entertainment for a feature film treatment. Legends continues the run of Hollywood fairytale remakes, but this one in particular is definitely the project I'm now looking forward to the most.

Legends takes place in a fantasy world that's part steampunk, part magic, and mixed in with some of your favorite fairy tale characters imagined in a much darker and more violent way than ever before. Jack is actually a giant killer, Goldilocks is a mercenary, Hansel and Gretel are psychic exterminators, and Red Riding Hood is appropriately a wolf hunter.

These legends of folklore thought they were immortal due to the powers of a charm that protects them, but after the warrior Pinocchio is found violently murdered, they realize all their lives might be at stake. It is for this reason that Jack and Red team up to find out who or what is trying to kill them.

Art Preview From Nick Percival's Legends

The buzz is out! Comic fans are getting more and more excited in anticipation of June 30th and the release of Nick Percival's "Legends: The Enchanted".

Here's what reviewers have been saying:

"...the art is right up front what Percival can do. It’s dark, gritty and at times frighteningly realistic considering the subject matter. Each panel is a swirl of color mixing the hues of pale, sickly flesh with vibrant background colors or the splash of blood as Jack the Giantkiller slays a jilted giantess. Even if you hated Percival’s writing, which you won’t, you’ll love the artwork as it could tell the story all by itself." - Cosmic Book News

"The art is dreamy-good. Percival clearly summoning the likes of HR Giger and Simon Bisley, and does them both one up by telling a cohesive story, something less like a bad acid trip and more like someone just hitting away at your cerebral cortex with a steam-powered sledgehammer. These characters are sexy, they are savage, they are gloriously wicked..." - Nilskidoo

With an amazing story and beautiful artwork from Nick Percival, Legends: The Enchanted is sure to be an essential purchase. - HyperGeek.com

Nick Percival's Enchanated

Legends: The Enchanted is set in a violent and decayed creature-infested world where strange technology, nature, and dark magic are in constant conflict. The story runs with the premise that many of the classic characters from folklore and fairytales have always existed. Known as the Enchanted, these people are now well into adulthood.

Feared and loathed by many, they spend their fractured existence as outlaws, vigilantes, bounty hunters and such, living their lives independently in an increasingly hostile world. The majority of these Enchanted have a mystic protective "charm" that allows them to sustain vast amounts of deadly physical damage yet still fully recover–they are virtually impossible to kill.

Using their wits, super-natural powers and customized weaponry, they discover that someone (or something) has found a way to break through their mystic immortality and started hunting them down, killing them one by one, beginning with the murder of Pinocchio – a powerful warrior man built from bionics, muscle and wood.

Get to know The Enchanted:

Jack
Hero for Hire. Ogres terrorizing your town? Giants guzzling your livestock? Or maybe you're the victim of a drunken Troll assault. Jack will cut any creature down to size…for the right price. Pumped up on 'Magic Beans', he roams the wasted landscapes looking for his next job and his next big drink.

Red Hood
Wolf Hunter. A tough loner, Red lives deep in the Bionic Woodlands with her young daughter and warrior in training, Verity. All they want is to be left alone and pity any rogue demons that stray from the path and get in their way. Wolf stew is on the menu.

Goldilox & Bear
Mercenaries. A sassy, feisty outlaw, Goldilox makes her living plundering the riches of the tyrannical elite. With her boyfriend and partner in arms, Bear, at her side, her reputation swings from heart-breaker to head-kicker.

Hansel & Gretel
Paranormal Exterminators. These two siblings search for wrong-doings of the sinister, magical kind. Blessed with psychic awareness and her brother blessed with brawn, creatures of the night had better get packing.

Rapunzel
Spy. When the stakes get high you can rely on Rapunzel. With unbreakable hair that obeys her every command, this master of combat and shrewd tactician leads a small group of Enchanted on the darkest of covert missions. Stealth has never looked so sexy.

The Hag
An ancient and dark Witch with legendary powers. Her mysterious origins stretch back to the Enchanted's earliest adventures. Now violently evolved, a hybrid of warped technology and foul magic, she's back from the dead to destroy the living. There's nothing worse than a Hag with a grudge.

Imagine and Radical tackle fairy tale super-team in 'Legends'

Classic fairy tales are drawing Hollywood heat, with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment and Radical Pictures the latest to work their magic.

The two are teaming to develop for the big screen “Legends,” a graphic novel from Radical’s publishing arm that brings together such characters as Red Riding Hood, Jack the Giant Killer and Hansel & Gretel in a dark fantasy setting.

Howard and Grazer will produce for Imagine, Barry Levine for Radical.

No writer has yet been hired to adapt, nor is it set up at any studio.

The story in “Legends” is set in motion when the remains of Pinocchio are discovered. Red Hood, now a noted wolf hunter, and Jack partner to discover who is murdering the creatures of folklore. Along the way, they are assisted by characters such as Goldilocks, re-imagined as a mercenary, and Hansel & Gretel, now psychic exterminators.

Nick Percival talks LEGENDS: THE ENCHANTED with Comic Book Resources

Check out this recent interview with the creator of LEGENDS: THE ENCHANTED, Nick Percival, and CBR featuring awesome, never-before-seen preview images of this upcoming and highly-anticipated new title.

"Get ready for a new journey into the world of fairy tales and fables. In 2010, Nick Percival and Radical Comics take the beloved fairy tale characters of old and thrust them into a gothic, steampunk world in "Legends: The Enchanted." The publisher will release a special $1.00 preview issue in January, followed by the full graphic novel in April. According to Percival, the graphic novel centers characters known only as The Enchanted - harsh, adult versions of the characters we know and love.

"The Enchanted are looked upon with fear and distrust by normal everyday folk and despised by their dark counterparts, known as The Wicked," says Percival. "Most of the Enchanted operate as vigilantes, outlaws, bounty hunters and so on - trying to find their place and purpose in a land that is growing increasingly hostile towards them. Armed with a hard attitude, unique abilities and customized weaponry, the Enchanted's world is shattered when they discover that some unknown enemy has found a way to break through their mystic immortality and begins slaughtering them one by one beginning with the killing of the half bionic/half wooden warrior, Pinocchio."

CBR News recently spoke at length with Nick Percival about his take on the characters in "Legends: The Enchanted," what sets the story apart from the other adaptations of fairy tales in the comics world, and how his previous work in comics all add up to one amazing view on the fairy tale tradition."
